Dr. Jeni Knizley
DVM and Practice Owner

Dr. Jeni Knizley is an esteemed veterinarian and the proud owner of Animal Care Center. Born in Mobile, Alabama, she embarked on a journey of academic excellence from an early age. Dr. Knizley graduated from St. Paul’s Episcopal School in 1999. In 2005, Dr. Knizley obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Mississippi State, solidifying her commitment to providing top-notch veterinary care. Demonstrating her dedication to continuous growth and professional development, she pursued an MBA from Auburn University in 2020, further enhancing her skills as a well-rounded business leader.

As a respected member of professional organizations such as the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Alabama Veterinary Medical Association (ALVMA), and the Shelter Pets Association, Dr. Knizley remains at the forefront of advancements in veterinary medicine. She possesses a profound passion for shelter medicine, advocating for the well-being and proper treatment of animals in need.

Dr. Knizley specializes in small animal veterinary care, with a particular interest in surgery. Her skillful hands and attention to detail ensure that her patients receive the highest level of care during surgical procedures.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Knizley cherishes her personal life. She finds rest and rejuvenation in activities such as running and engaging in water sports, and treasures quality time spent with her loved ones, including her husband, Stephen Marbut, whom she married in 2003. Together, they have been blessed with three beautiful children, Kate, Zeke, and Gabby, who bring immense joy to their lives.

Her unwavering commitment to her patients, combined with her academic accomplishments and involvement in professional organizations, positions her as a trusted and highly skilled veterinarian in her community.

 

Tracy
Office Manager

Tracy has been with Animal Care Center since August of 1997. She began working for Dr. Knight as a technician and then became a groomer. Soon after, she was promoted to office manager. With over 20 years of experience working with our clients and patients, Tracy is invaluable to the clinic team as a manager and staff member.

Tracy has a 29-year-old son, Zane, who graduated from South Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He currently lives in Tampa. She lives in Mobile with her husband, Rodney, and their 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 6 chickens. When she’s not at the office, she likes to spend as much time as possible outside and at the beach. At home she enjoys gardening, cooking, canning, and live music.

Rachel
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Rachel is an exceptional Licensed Veterinary Technician and the invaluable lynchpin of Animal Care Center. With an impressive career spanning nearly 15 years in the veterinary field, Rachel’s passion for animals has been evident since her childhood.

Rachel has an illustrious background in K9 search and rescue, showcasing her unwavering determination to help those in dire situations. Her extensive experience extends to canine therapy work in local hospitals, where she brings comfort and companionship to patients in need.

Furthermore, Rachel dedicates her time to volunteering with local shelters and rescue groups. From fostering and finding them loving homes to actively participating in training and competing with her own dogs in obedience and agility, Rachel’s commitment to the well-being of animals knows no bounds.

In her personal life, Rachel is a proud owner of multiple working dogs and a charming kitty named Beamer. While Beamer’s only trick may be demanding dinner, he’s quite good at it. In line with her belief in giving animals a second chance, all of Rachel’s beloved companions have been adopted from local shelters or rescue groups.

With her vast knowledge, technical expertise, and unwavering dedication, Rachel Leard serves as a role model for aspiring veterinary professionals. Her commitment to rescue animals, coupled with her extensive experience and remarkable skills, makes her an invaluable asset to our team at Animal Care Center.

Tom
Licensed Veterinary Technician

Tom is a highly accomplished professional serving as the Practice Manager at Safe Harbor Animal Coalition Surgery Center.

Having retired from the US Army at the distinguished rank of Colonel, Tom brings a unique set of skills and leadership qualities to his role. His military background has instilled in him a strong work ethic, discipline, and exceptional organizational abilities, which he applies to managing the operations of the surgery center with precision.

Tom’s journey in animal care began as an Animal Control Officer, where he gained valuable firsthand experience in handling various situations involving animals.

Tom initiated multiple TNVR (trap, neuter, vaccinate, return) programs, which have made a significant impact in controlling the stray animal population and improving the overall health and welfare of feral cats in multiple communities across the Gulf Coast. With all of these achievements, it’s easy to see how he received the 2023 Rob Walker Animal Compassion Award from Baldwin Humane Society.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tom’s personal life is a testament to his love and dedication to animals. He and his wife share their home with two beloved dogs and a remarkable number of cats.

With his extensive experience, passion for animal welfare, and strong leadership skills, Tom plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth functioning of Safe Harbor Animal Coalition. His dedication to the well-being of animals and commitment to advancing animal care standards make him an invaluable asset to the organization.

Laura
Veterinary Assistant

Laura came to the Animal Care Center after working at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab for five years on a seagrass monitoring project. She loves travelling and cats, and is thrilled when she is able to pet a cat while on a trip, which happens more than you might expect.

When asking her husband, “How do I write a bio? Who even am I?” She decided that his answer of “International Cat Lover of Mystery” is as good and succinct a description as any.

Kelly
Veterinary Assistant

Kelly brings years of experience in the veterinary industry to our office. She has been an essential member of our team since she joined us in 2022.

Outside of work, Kelly is a devoted mother to her two sons and the proud owner of a lively pack of five dogs (three Dalmatians and two Chihuahuas) and two cats. Her family keeps her busy with outdoor activities like kayaking and playing ball with her kids.

Kelly has always had a a passion for animals and their welfare. Her warm personality, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail ensure that every client and patient receives the highest level of care and attention.

Candy
Veterinary Assistant

Candy is a dedicated Veterinary Assistant here at Animal Care Center, where she has been working since 2022. With over 18 years of experience working in veterinary clinics, she is a highly skilled and knowledgeable professional who is passionate about providing the best possible care for animals. She understands the importance of building strong relationships with clients and their pets, and goes above and beyond to make sure both feel comfortable and well-cared for during their visit.

When Candy is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, and beloved cat.

Her passion for her work, combined with her years of experience and expertise, make her a valuable member of the Animal Care Center team.

Krisha
Veterinary Assistant

Krisha is a dedicated and compassionate veterinary assistant with over two decades of experience in the veterinary field. With her wealth of knowledge and unwavering commitment, Krisha has become a valuable member of our team.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Krisha demonstrates her deep-rooted passion for animal welfare through her involvement with Save A Stray, a local nonprofit rescue organization. As a volunteer and foster parent, she selflessly opens her heart and home to animals in need, helping them find loving forever homes. Outside of her work and volunteer endeavors, Krisha is a loving mother to her teenage son, Russell, and their two rescue cats named Callie and Sara Lee. During her leisure time, Krisha finds solace and rejuvenation by visiting the beach.

Krisha’s extensive experience, genuine love for animals, and dedication make her an exceptional veterinary assistant at Animal Care Center. Her commitment to providing exceptional care, both in the clinic and within the community, sets her apart and makes her a true asset to the field of veterinary medicine.

Kirstin
Kennel Assistant

Kirstin is a dedicated veterinary professional with a deep-rooted passion for animal care that joined our team in August of 2022. Kirstin’s commitment to her job is evident in her enthusiasm and genuine love for animals. Her lifelong dream of working in a veterinary clinic began during her childhood, and she has since pursued her calling with determination.

From domestic pets to exotics, she has nurtured a diverse array of pets throughout her life, gaining valuable insights into their unique needs and requirements.

Outside of her work at the clinic, she finds enjoyment in spending quality time with her friends, family, and, of course, her beloved pets. With eight furry companions of her own, Kirstin’s home is a sanctuary of love and care, providing her with constant reminders of the joy that animals bring to her life.

Her dedication to providing excellent care, coupled with her empathetic nature, make her an invaluable asset to Animal Care Center and a trusted advocate for the welfare of animals.

Tatyanna
Kennel Assistant

Tatyanna has been a dedicated kennel assistant at Animal Care Center since joining the clinic in 2021.

Currently pursuing her undergraduate degree at the University of South Alabama, Tatyanna aspires to continue her education and apply to veterinary school. When she is not attending to the needs of the clinic’s furry residents, Tatyanna can be found immersed in her studies, striving to excel academically.

Beyond her professional and academic pursuits, Tatyanna values the time spent with her loved ones, cherishing moments with her friends and family. Her upbringing in Montgomery instilled in her a deep sense of community, evident through her volunteer work at the Montgomery Humane Society.

Tatyanna’s exceptional care and compassion for all animals under her watch make her a valuable asset to Animal Care Center. Her unwavering dedication and enthusiasm serve as a testament to her potential to make a significant impact in the field of veterinary medicine.
